Mufti Ismail Moosa (may Allāh Ta’ālā preserve him)

“The multiplication of goodness is through multiple intentions. For one good actions, numerous intentions can be made. For every intention, a person will attain (separate) reward.”

A student can make so many intentions for seeking knowledge. The following are some suggestions on intentions that a student should repeat every morning and evening:

  • I am seeking knowledge for the pleasure of Allāh,
  • I am seeking knowledge to practice on what I learn,
  • I am seeking knowledge so that I can correct practice on Sharī’ah, in the way Allāh wants me to practice on it,
  • I am seeking knowledge to save myself from innovations,
  • I am seeking knowledge so that we can propagate and pass on this knowledge,
  • I am seeking knowledge so that I can be a source of guidance for mankind,
  • I am seeking knowledge so that I can serve the creation
  • I am seeking knowledge to correct my conduct and to beautify my character,
  • I am seeking knowledge to gain all the benefits and rewards mentioned in the blessed Aḥādīth,
  • I am seeking knowledge so that I can be raised with the Ambiyā and ‘Ulamā on the day of Qiyāmah.

By repeating these intentions, we will carry out the same action as others, but we will attain so many blessings and we will attract so much more Anwārāt. Our whole experience of seeking knowledge will be different.
